In the church of Aldworth Village lie ancient stone effigies. The common people say that they are the giants John Long, John Strong, John Never Afraid and John Ever Afraid, who they say, sold his soule to the devil and to escape him hid in the walls of the church.
How after 600 years our unlikely hero John Ever Afraid comes out from hiding,
How he stumbles confused and bewildered across the county,
How his plight awakens ancient spirits from their slumber,
How the devil and his revellers seek to capture him,
And how ultimately he must face his fears to outwit his foes.
